NPSHL Playoffs Instructions

  1. Every attempt will be made to have the top seeded team in a game play on home ice.  However, due to ice limitations, a neutral ice location may be assigned.  If this is not possible, it will be necessary for the game assigned to lower seeded team’s ice.
  2. Playoff scores must be reported to score@npshl.com within 4 hours of game.
  3. The NPSHL will post games and times on the npshl.com website.
  4. No time-outs will be allowed in any playoff game except for the Championship Game where one, 60 second time-out per team will be allowed.
  5. Play off Games will use the same time format as used during regular season play.  First and Second Periods will use a 15 minute running clock and a 12 minute stop clock will be used for the third period.  It may be necessary to shorten the 3rd period in order to complete game within allotted time.  This is determined by the following formula:  Actual ice time remaining divided by 2 equals time on scoreboard.

Following are the guidelines for all games in NPSHL Playoff games that end in a tie at the conclusion of regulation time.

Due to curfew, any game that is tied at the end of the 3rd period will immediately go to a shootout.

Format:

Teams MUST provide a list of shooter BEFORE the game starts to the scorekeeper.

List the ENTIRE roster of skaters in shooting order

  1.   Opening Round is the first 5 shooters listed, in order that they are listed.
  2. If there is a tie after the opening round, the next 5 shooters will go in order listed.
  3. If there is a tie after 2 rounds, the shootout goes to single players, listed in order until there is a winner.   No player may shoot a 2nd time until every player on the bench has taken a turn.
  4. If a player is in the penalty box at the end of regulation time (end of 3rd period), that player is automatically put at the bottom of the shootout list.  If there are multiple players in the box, their order is based on least time remaining on their penalty (after all other shooters have gone).
  5. If a team does not provide a shootout list prior to the game, their shooters will go in numerical order.

6.  There are no goalie substitutions unless an injury occurs to a goalie participating in the shoot out.
